Instead of writing a long post about where blogging is going, and where it is now, I decided that today I’d just share a video. Shani Higgins can say it better than I can anyway. And she’s got the clout to back it up.
In summary, however, this is what you’ll hear (my paraphrasing):
- Blogging is no longer a standalone platform
- Women bloggers are growing fast
- Not all blogging is personal
- There is a lot of opportunity for brands to jump on the blog bandwagon (emphasis mine)
- Sold out bloggers now manage an average of 3 blogs (my comment: Note that the key word is “manage”; they may or may not be writing them themselves)
- Probloggers are approached by brands up to 1,000 times per week, but most of those brands are doing it wrong
- Most bloggers aren’t making enough money to quit their day jobs (but understand that there are different reasons for blogging; this is referring to bloggers who are trying to earn an income from their blogging, not to companies trying to use a blog for marketing purposes)
- Sometimes, the best way to blog is to establish a partnership with a brand
All of that said, I think you should watch the video. It’s less than 10 minutes of your time and it will be well worth it.
