Since January of this year, I’ve been leading a co-working group in Mechanicsburg, Pa. We meet at Panera Bread on Carlisle Pike every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We’d like you to join us.
What Is Co-Working?
Co-Working is an interesting idea. People who are accustomed to working on their own – freelancers, entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, work-at-home moms and dads, and artists of various stripes – have a chance to connect with others through co-working.
These “alone types” don’t generally work in an office with other people. They may have their own office at home or even rent office space, but they usually work alone without much company. Co-working got started to address the social nature of work that these professionals are missing.
You can learn more about co-working at the co-working wiki.
A Misnomer If I Ever Saw One
Our group really isn’t co-working in the strictest sense. It consists of myself and a parish priest who is rector of an Anglican church in Enola, Pa. Plus anyone else who drops by.
Many co-working groups adopt office space for their members. There is nothing wrong with this approach at all. But I didn’t want to go that far. I just wanted to meet with other professionals once in a while instead of working alone at home all day every day.
Father Don, the aforementioned parish priest, was in the same boat. The rector of a small church, his only interaction with others is when he leads a Bible study or Sunday Mass, or when he works at his other job as a retirement center chaplain. Otherwise, he’s on his own. So the two of us decided to meet once a week for some co-working.
Invitation To Join Us
