Facebook wants your small business money. So they’re going to give you some first. In fact, they’re planning to give away $10 million in free advertising $50 at a time.
There’s nothing really revolutionary about this at all. Google’s been doing it for years. And if you open up a Web hosting account at just about any reputable Web hosting company online today you will likely get a free $50 credit toward Google AdWords advertising. Of course, for most businesses, that $50 won’t go very far. That’s why they do it.
This model has worked well for Google for many years. That’s why Facebook is planning to copy it.
I think Facebook advertising could work well for a lot of small businesses, especially local businesses. Your ads will likely be less expensive starting out than Google AdWords ads. Though Facebook’s targeting efforts are a bit different than Google’s. I, for one, am anxious to see how Facebook’s advertising model changes when it rolls out this free advertising giveaway.
This program really means the war between Facebook and Google is on. If you thought that war was between Google+ and Facebook as a social media marketing tool, I’m sorry to inform you that you’re wrong. The real war will be between Google AdWords and Facebook Marketing Solutions. And who will win long term is anybody’s guess.
