Every now and then, you have to take a day off. Even Internet marketers need a vacation. Well, that’s what the family and I did on Friday.
Since school is starting back up this week and the daughter had Friday off, we decided to make a day trip of it and take the grandchildren to the National Zoo. So I finished my work early (I did a lot of it the night before) and we drove down to the Metro station in Gaithersburg, Maryland and rode the train into D.C. The boys are all ga-ga over the train. They always have been.
After spending the day gawking at wild animals (and they gawking back), we left the zoo and walked the streets of D.C. We trekked down to The White House and got a glimpse at where Mr. Obama resides. After that, we hopped aboard the Metro again and made our way home.
If you talk to the grandkids, their stories are a bit different. The youngest, a redheaded fire cracker named Nathen (he’s 3 going on 4), says he took a trip to see the lions and tigers. The middle child, a blond named Savannya (age 7), says she went to the White House. No mention of the zoo. The oldest, Dylan (8), rode the train and walked three miles.
If you think about it, that’s how your customers are. They all have different stories – even if they have the same experience. One customer will tell his friends what he bought and what he likes about it, another will talk about your prices, and the third will just let his friends know whether you are easy to deal with or not. So what’s the point? Make every customer experience memorable (in a good way), be consistent in what you deliver, and treat them all the same.
Let your customers decide what they like or don’t like about your business. You just run your business such that you give them something good to talk about. Online, that’s as easy to do as it is off line if you know what you’re doing. There really is no secret sauce.
Finally, after you’ve built those solid online relationships, take a day off. Recharge. You deserve it.
