Where To Find Local Media

I stumbled upon a new media resource tool recently that I thought I’d share with readers here in the South Central Pennsylvania area. It’s called NeedMedia and it’s a directory, of sorts, for finding local and national media for your public relations needs. I think you’ll find it quite useful.

I used it to find media organizations in Harrisburg and discovered there are 3 magazines, 5 newspapers, 1 radio network, and 8 TV/cable stations serving the Harrisburg market. So a business in Harrisburg looking for places to send press releases and information about events they want to promote can use NeedMedia to find these companies and then contact them through the website.

NeedMedia lists the name and publisher of each media outlet, the address and phone number, and a direct link to their website. It’s the most useful tool I’ve found in the media/PR space.

I performed another search for media in York and discovered 5 newspapers and 8 TV/cable stations. In Gettysburg, there is 1 newspaper, but you can click a link to see what media exists within a 50-mile radius. When I clicked that link for Gettysburg I found 7 magazines, 28 newspapers, 3 radio stations, and 32 TV/cable stations. Additionally, there were 3 media jobs listings.

Note that not all of the media listed are general news organizations like The Patriot-News and Fox. Rather, specialty news organizations are listed as well. For instance, there is an equestrian magazine near Gettysburg, and a bow hunter magazine as well.

In addition to finding the media you need for your PR campaigns and media exposure, you can find and list jobs in the media and public relations fields as well as list your professional media organization. NeedMedia is one of the best PR and media resources on the planet. I highly recommend it.
