If you want your local business website to rank well in Google’s search engine, then there are three Google-owned properties that I would recommend you get familiar with and learn how to use. Two of them have been around a while. The third is less a year old but could be the most important one of all.
- Google Places – Let’s start with Google Places. The first thing you should do is claim your listing on Google Places. Then, if you have a physical presence, plot your business on the map. You can also pull your map into your website so that your website visitors can find you more easily.
- Blogger – I don’t recommend using Google’s Blogger for your company blog, but I do recommend using it for building back links to your website. The best way to use Blogger for building back links is to create a new blog for specific channels related to your niche. For instance, if you are a dentist and you want to promote teeth whitening, start a Blogger teeth whitening channel and post articles on teeth whitening that link back to your websites.
- Google+ – Google+ is Google’s social network, which is becoming more and more important for search. In fact, while logged into your Google account, your searches will return results based on your social media patterns or habits. If you have a lot of local connections through Google+, then when other users search for information related to your business niche, they are likely to find you on Google.
These are three of the most important Google services that I would recommend if you want to increase your local SEO efforts. They are not, by any means, the only local SEO tools at your disposal.
