Generic Domain Names Increase Your Click-Throughs

SEOs looking for validation can now bask in a new study conducted by Domain Sherpa that backs up their claims that generic domain names are best for your PPC campaigns – and I would add your SEO campaigns as well.

For a few years now SEOs have had this argument going on. Those in favor of keyword-based domain names have argued that they are better for SEO. The other side has said just the opposite. But even if the argument is conceded, here’s one more reason to use generic keyword-based domain names: They increase your CTR.

The primary reason this is so is because those domain names match the needs of searchers.

Here’s an example: Let’s say a searcher is searching for information on sprint car racing in South Central Pennsylvania. They are more likely to click on a search result – and a PPC ad – that matches the search query than one based on a brand name. The reason is because that search result is a direct match for their search query. For searchers, that’s a big deal.

So keep this in mind. When you want more click-throughs, use generic domain names.
