Link Building With Diversity In Mind

So you’ve heard that you should be building links to your South Central Pennsylvania website. Good! But are you going about it the right way?

Just to be clear, there is no one way to go about your link building, but there are a lot of ineffective ways. I hope after reading this blog post you’ll have a better understanding of link diversity and why it is important to your link building efforts.

First, two cautions:

  • Do not point all of your links to your home page. You want your internal pages to rank in the search engines too, so be sure you link to them.
  • Vary your anchor text. One keyword phrase linking to your website all the time will not look natural and could hurt you.

You want your link portfolio to look natural to the search engines. A natural-looking link portfolio will contain several characteristics that appear as if many random people are linking to your website using a variety of types of links, anchor texts, and techniques. When you control your own linking, you should do everything you can do to make your links look more natural.

Follow these tips to make your South Central Pennsylvania business website appear to have a more natural link portfolio:

  1. Use a variety of anchor text. For each web page you link to, try to use between 5 and 15 different anchor text phrases (keyword phrases) for that web page.
  2. Link to each web page from a variety of types of websites (blogs, forums, directories, social bookmarking websites, etc.)
  3. Seek out links from high authority sites as well as new websites.
  4. Geotarget some of your links. That means use geotargeted keyword phrases as anchor text and emplace some of your links on local websites like the Chamber of Commerce, your local newspaper, etc.
  5. Do not link only to your home page. Link to each page of your website with varying anchor texts and from many different types of website with varying degrees of authority.
  6. Don’t be afraid to link from outside of your niche as well. If you have an automotive website and you see an article about the importance of auto tune ups on a household finance management blog, you can comment on that and link back to your website.
  7. Some of your links should also contain non-keyword based anchor text such as “click here,” “learn more,” and “go to.”

Link building is important to obtain high search engine rankings, but it’s not all about one type of link. A good link portfolio consists of a variety of types of links with a variety of keyword phrases as anchor text. Be sure you leave a diverse trail of links back to your website.
