I’ve been looking into Skype. They’ve got a really sweet deal going. For $2.99/month, you can have unlimited calls to U.S. and Canada landlines and mobile phones. You can even get an online phone number so that people can call you from anywhere and it be a local phone call. That’s pretty nice.
While looking into the deal, I learned that Skype and Facebook have an integrated relationship. Here’s the deal:
- Use Skype and your Facebook friends are automatically added to your phone book
- Facebook’s newsfeed is also added to Skype
- You can IM your Facebook friends while logged into Skype
- You can like your friends’ comments through Skype
- You can comment on your friends’ status updates through Skype
These aren’t particularly innovative features nor are they extremely earth shattering. However, they are valuable features if you run a small business, especially if you use either Facebook or Skype. They are particularly valuable if you use both.
Skype, in particular, has always been useful to businesses. When I first heard about it, back in 2006, it was useful then. But it has grown even more useful now. And that’s why I am considering using it, both for personal home usage as well as business usage. I think your business might benefit from considering Skype and Facebook as well.
